AdBlue® is a high quality urea solution which is easy to use.

AdBlue® is also called AUS32, or Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5% which is used with the Selective Catalytic Reduction system (SCR) to reduce emissions of oxides of nitrogen from the exhaust of diesel vehicles.

AdBlue® is a 32.5% solution of high-purity urea in de-mineralized water which is clear, non-toxic and safe to handle. It is non explosive, non flammable and non harmful to the environment. AdBlue® is classified under the minimum risk category of transportable fluids. It is not a fuel, nor a fuel additive and needs to be used in a dedicated tank in your heavy-duty vehicle. It is replenished in a similar way to refuelling diesel. If you spill AdBlue®on your hands, simply wash it off with water.


AdBlue® is produced from a high purity urea solution. Urea is produced by the synthesis of ammonia and CO2 (carbon dioxide). Technical grade urea is found in such products as shampoos, cosmetics and glues. Urea used in AdBlue® is of a different quality grade than that used for fertilizers.

Quality AdBlue® is directly produced from the urea manufacturing process. This urea solution is then diluted with processed demineralized water. A specific quality and high purity of water is used for AdBlue® to avoid all contamination. Using out of specification water in the production of AdBlue® is probably the greatest threat to your catalyst, and therefore your vehicle, so it is essential to purchase from a supplier who produces AdBlue® to the global ISO specification.

How AdBlue® Works

Vehicles with SCR technology have a separate tank filled with AdBlue®. This is then injected into the exhaust pipe, in front of the SCR catalyst, downstream of the engine.

Heated in the exhaust, it decomposes into ammonia and CO₂. When the NOx from the engine exhaust reacts inside the catalyst with the ammonia, the harmful NOx molecules in the exhaust are converted to harmless nitrogen and water, which are released from the tail pipe as steam.
